Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical procedure for the removal of excess fatty tissue in order to reshape body contours. It can be combined with other surgical procedures such as a tummy tuck or breast reduction.
Common areas for liposuction are:
- Abdomen and waist
- Back
- Breast or chest area
- Calves and ankles
- Cheeks, chin and neck
- Hips and buttocks
- Inner knees
- Thighs
- Upper arms
All liposuction procedures require a small incision in order for the cannula to be inserted to remove the excess fatty tissue. Most incisions are so small they do not require any sutures. When a large amount of fatty tissue is removed a compression garment may be worn to help your skin conform to your new body contours.
If you are healthy, have firm skin, good muscle tone and are within 30% of your ideal weight you may be a good candidate for liposuction.

Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity.
