Blue Ridge Plastic Surgery in Hendersonville, North Carolina, is proud to offer our patients Microneedling. Our highly trained practitioners use the distinctive Blue Bellus Medical SkinPen® which is a safe, effective vertical microneedling device setting the standard on The Medical Aesthetics Market.
How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling uses your body's natural functions. Microneedling does exactly what it sounds like, tiny needles enter the outer layer of your skin, causing 2 main effects:
1. Microscopic Injuries
2. Temporary Tunnels
These tiny injuries help to boost the amount of collagen and elastin in your skin and the tunnels or channels that are left by the needle paths allow topical therapies to better penetrate the skin, thus enhancing their effects.
The popularity of microneedling continues to grow, because it is effective for a variety of conditions, has a short recovery period, and is relatively painless.
The Advantages of Microneedling Include:
It can be safely performed on darker skin types (as opposed to many skin smoothing lasers that may not be used on dark skin),
It is a relatively quick process.
It is not very uncomfortable. It feels like a dentists polishing brush. Note: If you ever experience pain during microneedling ask the technician to stop and reapply the numbing cream. Microneedling should never hurt!
Microneedling treatments don't involve any chemicals, abrasive substances, or other foreign substances.
If you are looking for natural results, microneedling is a great way to go. Collagen is a structural protein that your body produces all the time. By using this treatment, you are simply sending your body signals to start producing more collagen in just the right places. Once told what to do, your body does the rest of the work for you, restoring your skin’s smoothness with its own natural building blocks.
The key to microneedling is promoting the growth of collagen. This means that, on top of being a great acne scar treatment, it also treats just about anything and everything that can be made better by increased collagen production and smoother, firmer skin! This includes surgical and other scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and even conditions like hyper-pigmentation. Micro needling treatment really can do that much!
An Experienced Technician Makes All the Difference.
Microneedling results are based on several factors:
Depth or Aggressive Level - Being at a medical office, rather than a traditional spa, allows the technician to set their pen setting deeper in the epidermis due to a medical license on file. The deeper the setting, the more collagen you can stimulate. A skilled technician will change the SkinPen's depth setting multiple times during the procedure. If your technician does not stop to adjust the SkinPen's setting many times throughout your procedure you are not receiving the customized treatment that you deserve.
Application Technique - A skilled technician uses a variety of different strokes. Some strokes are long and singular, some are short and repetitive and some strokes are circular. Different areas of the face, as well as areas that have acne scarring, have to be treated differently.
Number of Applications - Microneedling is not a one time fix. All patients require at least 3 treatments and each treatment needs to be spaced 4 weeks to 6 weeks apart. Why? Firstly, collagen stimulation takes four weeks to be visually noticeable on the skin's surface. Secondly, the patient will see a minute amount of visible progression from just one treatment, but when you get a cumulative effect, it is measurable and noticeable.
While we do recommend at least 3 consecutive treatments, a single treatment is a great way to see if you like microneedling. Single treatments are also an excellent way to maintain results from a Dot Laser Therapy Procedure.
Whether you have scarring, wrinkles, or collagen loss, SkinPen microneedling can help. These before and after photos show the results typically achieved following 3 consecutive monthly treatments. Imagine what 6 treatments will achieve.
What Results Can I Expect from a Series of Microneedling Treatments?
We all want smooth, toned and wrinkle-free skin in a non-invasive, pain-free and efficient way. Besides the fact that Gwyneth Paltrow and Naomi Watts swear by it, there are other reasons why microneedling is the way to go.
Increasing Collagen - Facial wrinkles, sun damage and thinning skin are primarily due to a loss of collagen and elastin. Microneedling produces natural collagen and elastin in the skin, significantly improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. More collagen and elastin helps thicken and tighten skin, therefore reducing the look of thinning skin, which is often associated with aging.
Minimal Pain - The technicians at Blue Ridge Plastic Surgery only use the distinctive Blue Bellus Medical SkinPen® which is a safe, effective vertical microneedling device setting the standard on The Medical Aesthetics Market. The feeling associated with SkinPen microneedling is similar to dentis's polishing brush being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the high quality of the SkinPen and the use of a numbing cream makes the treatment basically pain free. Many patients heal within 24 hours.
Reduced Hyperpigmentation - Hyperpigmentation happens when there is an unusual production of melatonin in the skin. Acne, wounds or increased exposure to the sun usually bring on hyperpigmentation. Microneedling sheds the top layer of skin, increases absorption and produces normal melanocyte. Microneedling is safe for those with a darker skin tone.
What Products Should I Use Following Microneedling?
Here at Blue Ridge Plastic Surgery we recommend Skinfuse products as they are specifically designed to enhance the effects of SkinPen® microneedling.
Formulated specifically for microneedling, Skinfuse provides the skin cells the essential building blocks necessary to optimize the results of microneedling. Just as the fibroblast in the lower layer of our skin slows down collagen production over time, important skin cells in the top layer of our skin, the epidermis, also slow down and stop communicating over time, compromising the skin texture and tone. While microneedling alone triggers the growth factors and signaling molecules proven to increase cell to cell communication, Skinfuse provides the essential skin cell nutritional requirements to optimize this process of restoring healthy cell function, while omitting ingredients proven to hinder this process.
